Life would be so much easier if we were computers. Decisions would be
straight forward, based on facts and analytical data -- cut and dry.
As human beings, the decision making process gets fogged up by our
emotions - doesn't it? When we are looking to hire a contractor to make
a repair or renovate our home or if we're looking to take on an
employee or outsource work as part of a business project, what do we
do?
Well, I know what I do. I do a summary check of credentials, ask
about the price (of course), but I really want to tune into who this
person is: Do I like them? What does my gut tell me? Are they honest?
Do they rub me the wrong/right way? Aside from a glowing referral,
what's making me pick you?

Interestingly,according to a UCLA study, the verbal impact of
communication only accounts for 7% of your overall message. The bulk of
our communication comes across in our appearance and body language,
comprising 55%. Tone, speed and inflection of our voice make up the
remaining 38%.
